Tuesday, September 2, 2003

Mayor Walkup joins New Parents Network in announcing phase 1 of at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at a South Side Library.

Where can one find Tucson-specific parenting information, all in one place?  The answer is!

In partnership with the Eller School of Business, New Parents Network is pleased to make available to our community the first internet web site custom-tailored for our community, giving important parenting information in multi-media formats such as links, photos, posters, brochures, simple tips, videos, maps and audio sound bytes – in English and Spanish.

Mayor Walkup states:  "Making high quality information available to parents in Tucson is an investment in our future because our children are our future.  Replacing a recalled child seat could literally mean the difference between life and death. New Parents Network will put Tucson on the map as a leader in the field of universally accessible parenting information.”

Karen Storek of New Parents Network says, “Information is a powerful tool, and New Parents Network is unique because we are connecting the information providers with everyone - home internet users, the media, and the poorest of poor through the caregivers who serve them.”

Phase 1 of the web application is located at , and is a work in progress with information being added daily.  All social services and government agencies in Pima County are urged to submit their parenting information to the site.

Individuals and companies can sponsor messages that have meaning to them, and there is an interactive forum for parents to communicate with each other.

The public and media are invited to this event.
